Westland

Mike Brownlee and the WestLand Panel

Description

This biologist is with federal fisheries and specializes in habitat impacts caused by logging. He reveals how research at Carnation Creek (WestLand show 2 year 1) is now becoming part of fish/forest logging guidelines and calls for retention of large organic- debris along streams. Brownlee takes the WestLand camera on a field trip and shows the role of big wood in building stream complexity. Note: This is the direct link between Carnation Creek research and the present Forest Practices Code which led to Forest Renewal and then Watershed Restoration. The fish/forest guidelines grew out of early research mostly at Car. Cr. And in time the guidelines became basis for the Code.
