Portrait of Armillaria

Description

This program is a report on "armillaria" a forest fungus endemic to many B.C. forest types. When a certain set of conditions prevails, the fungus flourishes at the expense of mid-age to mature conifers - especially Douglas fir. Lack of knowledge about the nature of this fungus and how damaging it can be has resulted in the death of tens of thousands of valuable trees. Forest pathologists report that in some stands, only half the trees affected will live long enough to reach merchantable size.
